Where Every Stone Begins
Origin &
Certification
MEG sources exclusively from two of the most mineralogically significant regions on earth. Here is exactly where, how, and why.
The Two Origins
Two countries. Zero compromises.
MEG's entire inventory comes from direct partnerships with family-run operations in Artigas, Uruguay and Minas Gerais, Brazil. These are individually documented, photographed at source, and assigned a certificate before export.
Artigas is the amethyst capital of the world. The basalt geology of northwestern Uruguay produces approximately 90% of the world's finest amethyst. Volcanic cavities formed 130 million years ago during the Paraná flood basalt event create the deep purple saturation and crystal clarity that defines premium-grade amethyst.
MEG sources directly from small, multi-generational mining operations in this region — family businesses with decades of knowledge of specific veins, extraction seasons, and quality grading.
Each Uruguay stone carries a certificate referencing the specific mine lot, extraction date, weight, and dimensions.
Minas Gerais — literally "General Mines" — is one of the most mineralogically diverse states on earth. The region produces exceptional citrine, smoky quartz, tourmaline, and rare crystal formations not found at comparable quality elsewhere.
MEG's Brazilian partnerships focus on raw crystal points, clusters, and select formation specimens. The pegmatite geology produces crystals with unusually high clarity and complex internal structure.
Each Brazil stone carries a certificate referencing the specific mine lot, extraction date, weight, and dimensions.
How Certification Works
From extraction
to your hands.
Why It Matters
The problem with most crystals on the market
A significant proportion of crystals sold globally — including in Indonesia — are dyed, heat-treated, resin-coated, or synthetic, sold as natural specimens. Even among genuinely natural stones, origin labelling is often approximate: "South American amethyst" can mean anything from premium Artigas material to lower-grade deposits from four different countries.
MEG does not deal in approximations. Every stone has a specific origin, a specific certificate, and a specific photograph. You are not buying "a type of amethyst" — you are buying a documented physical object with a known geological history.
